A student exchange program is a program in which a student, typically in secondary or higher education, chooses to live in a foreign country to learn, among other things, language and culture. These programs are called 'exchanges' because originally the goal was an exchange of students between different countries. No trade off is actually required, so a student is allowed to go to another country without finding a counterpart in that country to exchange with. Students live with a host family, who are usually unpaid volunteers and can be a traditional family, a single parent, or a couple with no children at home.
Exchange program abroad is a good way to explore new culture from the other countries. It could be easy, hard, hazardous and challenging. Indulging in the said program needs courage, perseverance, humility and determination to take the risks. Therefore, before you take this challenge, you better check yourself first if you can take it all. Indeed, you can get a lot of benefits when taking the program. Benefits that you can use not only as a gear in looking for an opportunity work abroad but to your inner self as well.
- The first thing that you should do is to think if you can manage yourself to leave your parents for months or for a year. If you think that you can independently leave for your own then grab this opportunity. But if you think you cannot make it, then do not waste your time processing papers to travel abroad.
- Before you jump into conclusion that you are going abroad to study, consider your family as well. Some of the parents do not have full trust to their children. Therefore, consult them first if they agree with your decision.
- Think of the possibilities that if you are going abroad to spend the rest of your years studying there, you would be far away from your parents, love-ones, friends and relatives if there is something to happen with you expect that they do not have immediate access to you. But if you think you can do all the challenges abroad as a foreign exchange student, then this would be your time to grab this exciting opportunity coming into your life.
